Practice this in the new year - reasons to be thankful!
Back to Full Blog

Be thankful!

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

That was awesome, AZRON. I don't have as much trouble being thankful to God, even in the hard stuff, as I do with my attitude toward people (as in your last post) when they are being jerks.

I can do the latter but only with the help of the Holy Spirit!

Your last two posts should be posted on everyone's refrigerator in every home across America............we are turning into an ungrateful bunch of spoiled brats and the book of Romans says that ungratefulness is the first step away from God toward a reprobate mind. I'm always careful to check that in my own spirit and with my children. Great post!

POH, thanks for the comments and affirmations. I hope that these blogs will be inspirations and encouragements to people to grow and mature in their lives. Of course, these kinds of thoughts mean that we have to stop for a minutes and examine our lives. And I think that is good. And yes, ingratitude is the first step away from God! And gratitude is a powerful step back toward God!

Azron,

Sometimes I'm so grateful for every little thing that I'm like a kid with a new toy. I suspect that is the reason behind whatever success I've had as a human being. I care, and am happy with little things. I have a lot of years ahead of me yet, numerous things to learn and much to share.

PWH - yes, gratitude is a key that unlocks many opportunities - it gives us a chance to see things differently - a chance to make good out of what might be bad or evil. blessings

Purple, grief is a huge energy sucker! It saps us of all strength to do that which we so desparately want to do - even keep these kind of qualities in mind. You are already on the way to healing if you understand that grief is the cause of your difficulty. All the best in your healing journey. Take time - through meditation, writing in a journal, going for a walk (or some other form of exercise), talking to another person, listening to music to empty your emotional cup a little bit every day so you can have room for new experiences and feelings. Wishing you healing in 07. (Remember healing doesn't mean 'getting over' grief, healing means 'getting through' the grief.)

Though I would have argued the point at the time, I can look back now and see how adversity and challenge and various woes, learning to deal with and overcome them, helped me mature and grow. A timely reminder.

Here's hoping you enjoy a safe and happy New Year.

Mr. Ornery - isn't it interesting how retrospective gives us a different view of things - happy for you that you are able to draw learnings and growth out of adversity. Thanks for coming by and leaving a note. Cheers!

thanks azron...these trials i'm going through...if they
are tests from God...i've had enough my land...i think
it was Marvin Gaye who said, "how much more abuse is a man
supposed to take?"...i guess not much more...coz he didn't
make it...

it doesn't help when the world around us
is in the spin cycle backwards

peace,

AZRON,
We have arrived in the year 2007. It's kind of dark, but it looks a lot like 2006 did. Hope your New Year is a safe and pleasant one.

Mr. Ornery - well, whew - glad to know that there will be a 2007! What do people do in NZ for New Year's day - as you know in the excited states people sit around recovering from the night before and watch football all day.
