"Someone picks up a book, reads the words and pretends to know the author. They never look beyond the bindings to know the real person. A passionate person desire to know the real author, therefore not only knowing the author but the inner self they are to be."
In response to my last blog about accepting God's invitation to a friendship with Him, Cuddle40 wrote the above comment.
I find this to be a beautiful metaphor of how we come to know God. God has written his character large in our world - in Creation, in His Son, in the Bible.
As Cuddle observes it is one thing to read the book, it is another entirely different thing to know the author in an intimate way.
As I am sure is true of many of us, we have read books and have some thoughts about the character of the author. Then one day we meet the author of the books we have read. Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised, sometimes we are sadly disappointed. When we find the author matching what we gathered from the book, we are encouraged and affirmed in our observations.
I find a God of love, mercy, kindness and justice in the Bible. A God who loves me unconditionally. Each day I find myself drawn closer and closer to the Bible's author.

you are welcome.
so many people seem diappointed with God. Yancey wrote a book called that Disappointment with God - I am with you - I have never been disappointed with God.
